Many people would say that a great idea is the most important part when creating an app or a game. Well, that applies to various other areas, and we tend to agree with that. There are tons of various apps and games available in the Google Play Store, and the ones with the best idea (in combination with execution, of course) tend to be the most successful ones. Now, many of us like to spend some time gaming on our devices, the time and game type will vary from person to person, but if you like to play games at least to a certain degree, you might want to read on.
There are all kinds of weapons-based games in the Play Store: gun games, vehicle combat (airplane, tank, etc), archery, and the like. The South Korean developer Karakod Interactive wants to take us back even a few more millennia, back to the days of our cave-dwelling ancestors, with a game called Big Hunter. It puts us in the position of a caveman (caveperson?) whose job it is to harvest dinner. Big dinner. Like, really big dinner. With nothing but a set of spears to chuck at said big dinner. Let’s see how this goes.

While browsing the Google Play Store, we’ve stumbled upon yet another interesting gaming title which managed to intrigue us, and it’s called ‘Big Hunter’. Now, this game is really simple to play, and the graphics are just right considering the gameplay, though nothing high-end, which means you’ll be able to play this game on a wide range of devices, even if they’re not at all powerful. Anyhow, the game is simple, you’re a hunter, whose goal is to hunt down a mammoth. Now, as you might imagine, that’s not exactly an easy task, and you’re armed with only spears. So, you’ll need to hit the mammoth with the spear a number of times to defeat it, and the amount of damage will depend on how accurate you are, certain parts of mammoth’s body are weaker than the rest. Also, if you manage to rake up conscious shots, you’ll get a bonus, which means you’ll do even more damage.

Hunting is a thing that looks so hard to do especially when you have to hunt small animals with a target moving fast over there and over here that make you become overwhelmed. But have you ever thought to hunt with target animals like giant mammoth with the use of weapons in the form of a spear. Things like that is what was in the Big game Hunter crime Kakarod.
Big Hunter is an action game that has the look of a fairly dazzling animation with an atmosphere that is so entertaining. This game tells the story of a bushman tribe who live in the outback town where many members of his tribe are dying because famine made the leader of the tribe of bushman it must intervene to resolve the issue by way of hunting every day using a spear, but he found only mammoth animals who become targets for hunting. Big Hunter is a game about hunting mammoths in order to feed your starving village. After a series of natural disasters famine has struck and you – being the strongest man in the village – have been chosen to hunt mammoths to keep the village alive.

Equipped with a few spears, you as the player are required to help your little man hunt down a massive woolly mammoth using two simple controls. By tapping and holding the left side of the screen your player will back away – very useful when avoiding stomping mammoth feet 😱  – and by touching and pulling back on a spear you can easily throw it in any direction, a lot like the way you fire birds in Angry Birds.

The only downside we can see to this game as reviewers is just how cute all the characters are! Unlike Monster Hunter or every zombie killing game that has ever been released, the characters in Big Hunter are “Super Cute” giving the player a slight feeling of guilt after successful defeating a mammoth…
While you hunt down the mammoth, you’ll need to run away from it at the same time, which essentially means you’ll need to move back (in this case left) quite frequently. In some levels you’ll get a limited amount of spears, in others, you’ll get a limited amount of time to hunt down a mammoth, etc. There are 100 levels available in this game, and things get really hard after you sort out the first 30 or so. Mammoths get bigger and stronger, which essentially makes them impossibly hard to defeat. The game is free to play, though you’ll need to pay up in order to remove ads, as it’s the case in a number of other games. You’ll be glad to know that ads aren’t all that intrusive here, which is great, of course.
Gameplay is simple; almost too simple. You are set on the screen with a rather large game animal on the other side of the screen as you; could be an elk mammoth, or other, sillier creations. Right before starting, you’re shown the ‘soft spot’ of the animal in question; the area to aim for with your spear to make a fatal strike.
When I say “almost too simple” above, it’s because that’s all you do: you aim and throw your spears Angry-Birds-style at the animal…after taking a couple of shots, or after a short period of idleness by you, the animal will begin to charge you and take you out first. You can also backpedal by tapping on a corner of your screen. But it quickly boils down to you wildly flinging spears trying to kill before the wicked tusks/antlers/beak/other hit you and take you out in the process.
There is a “training camp” section, where you can practice or spar with fake game animals, scoring as many points as you can before missing a total of 5 times. Once you feel confident enough, you’re free to go out into the wild to harvest your dinner. As you progress you are afforded the opportunity to upgrade your weaponry, from premium spears, to axes, and so forth.
But the game can go from too-simple to almost too-difficult, as well. The aforementioned osoft spot can be quite discrete….that is to say, small. It can quite difficult to hit this spot, and this can get quite aggravating. Both my son & I tried repeatedly to get through the middle stages of the game, without any success; we kept getting run over repeatedly without progress.
As a hunter, you start out on ‘Day 1’ and have to complete one kill per day. Maybe we are just pretty terrible with this game, but it sure seemed like the way to win a level was always elusive…we couldn’t get past ‘Day 8′ for the longest time, and every level after that was a struggle.
